Types of Therapy Offered

Explore the special areas of focus in our practice and types of trauma therapy in which we are trained.

Individual Therapy

Individual therapy is a collaborative process between a client and a trained therapist focused on addressing personal challenges, mental health concerns, or life goals. This one-on-one setting allows individuals to explore thoughts, emotions, and behaviors in a safe, private, and supportive environment.

Couples Therapy

Couples therapy is a form of counseling that helps partners work through relationship challenges and strengthen their bond. It provides a structured and neutral setting where both individuals can explore issues, improve communication, and gain insights into their dynamics. A trained therapist facilitates the process, guiding the couple to address challenges constructively and encouraging both partners to express their perspectives openly and honestly.

Family Therapy

Family therapy involves treating multiple members of a family to improve communication, resolve conflicts, and address specific issues affecting the health and functioning of the family unit. It is based on the idea that family dynamics play a significant role in the emotional and mental well-being of its members. Instead of focusing solely on an individual, family therapy looks at how the family system works and how each person's behavior affects others in the family.

EMDR

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a form of psychotherapy designed to help people process and resolve traumatic memories and associated distress. EMDR has been widely recognized as an effective treatment for trauma, particularly post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). It works by helping the brain reprocess traumatic memories, reducing their emotional intensity and altering how they are stored in the mind.

Somatic Therapy

Somatic therapy is a body-centered approach to psychotherapy that focuses on the connection between the mind and body to address emotional, psychological, and physical distress. It incorporates the idea that trauma and negative emotions can be stored in the body and that healing involves engaging both mental and physical processes.

Internal Family Systems

Internal Family Systems (IFS) is a type of psychotherapy that views the mind as made up of different "parts," each with its own perspectives, emotions, and roles. IFS is based on the idea that everyone has a "Self" at the core, which is a compassionate, wise, and calm presence capable of leading and healing all parts. The therapy aims to help people access and strengthen their Self so they can relate more harmoniously with their parts.

Gender Affirming Surgery Letters

The purpose of the letter is to confirm that the person seeking surgery has undergone the necessary assessments to ensure they are ready for the procedure and that the surgery is consistent with their gender identity and overall mental health. These letters aim to affirm that the person has a clear and informed understanding of the procedure and the potential impact it may have on their emotional and psychological well-being.

Brainspotting

In a Brainspotting session, a therapist uses a pointer or encourages the client to find a "brainspot" in their visual field that correlates with a specific emotional or physical reaction. These brainspots are believed to be entry points to memories, emotions, and sensations connected to traumatic or distressing experiences.

This process taps into the brain's deep-seated, often subconscious areas associated with trauma, promoting emotional release and integration.

Therapy for Veterans

Therapy for veterans is specialized care tailored to address the unique challenges that veterans may face, such as trauma from combat, adjustment to civilian life, physical injuries, and mental health issues like PTSD, depression, and anxiety. Many veterans experience these challenges due to the demands of military service, including exposure to life-threatening situations, prolonged stress, and separation from loved ones. Effective therapeutic approaches for veterans often integrate trauma-informed and evidence-based methods that consider these specific experiences.
